New DIMIA changes from April about High School
Effective from 1 April, AL 4 students who apply for a schools sector visa and are over 16 years of age will be required to show evidence of an IELTS test score of at least 5.0. If the student will be undertaking up to 30 weeks of English language tuition then an IELTS of at least 4.0 is required.
For PRC students a waiver of these requirements is possible if the student’s application has been lodged by an agent who has been nominated for the waiver by the applicant’s education provider and the student has satisfied the criteria for inclusion in the first year of the waiver. Through either;
1. Achieving satisfactory results in an English Language Proficiency test
or
2. the applicant has obtained a result that allows them to progress to the academic stream in a senior secondary school in China, and achieved a result of at least 75% in English studies for their Certificate of Graduation from Junior Secondary School.
WUC’s English language placement test has been approved by DIMIA as a suitable English test.
