Faculty of Engineering -up-to-date information on the faculty's
programs
The mission of the Faculty of Engineering is to be the Australian leader,
and among the world leaders, in practice-based engineering education and research.
To accomplish this mission the Faculty has developed innovative
undergraduate and postgraduate programs and strong links with industry.
Currently, the Faculty of Engineering at UTS is one of the largest in
Australia and teaches over 5,000 students, both within Australia and in
international locations. It offers a comprehensive range of
undergraduate and postgraduate courses and it is well known for being
internationally focussed, for its links with industry and its excellence
in teaching.
At undergraduate level, the Faculty's practice-based education focus
requires students to experience the reality of engineering internship
from an early stage in the professional formation and it actively relates
these experiences to their academic program.
At postgraduate level, the Master of Engineering Management provides the
opportunity for engineers . careers in engineering management to
undertake a formal program of relevant study at master's level. The
course is designed for engineers or scientists who perform, or aspire to
perform, management tasks while maintaining currency in their technical
specialities.
The Master of Engineering Studies provides recently graduated engineers
and technical specialists with the in-depth knowledge and skills
required for a successful career in their field of engineering. The
flexible structure of this course allows students to choose whether to
focus on a specialist area through completion of a postgraduate program
major, or whether to broaden their range of skills selecting any eight
postgraduate engineering subjects.
We are finding a significant number of international students combine
both technical and management studies by undertaking both masters over a two-year period.
Scholarships
We now also offer a substantial number of scholarships for both
undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students.
International Student Profiles
Our international students come from over 115 countries from as far away
as Albania to Denmark, India to Peru and Zimbabwe. In the Faculty of
Engineering we have about 500 undergraduate and postgraduate
international students who are from a variety of countries. The Student
Profile site portrays our students and lets them speak about their
impressions and views on their studies with the faculty and their
experiences of living in Sydney.
History
The Faculty of Engineering at UTS began teaching in 1965 as part of a new institute, soon to become the New South Wales Institute of
Technology (NSWIT). In 1987 by Act of the Parliament of NSW, NSWIT was reconstituted as the University of Technology Sydney and commenced operation as UTS in January 1988. During 1988 and 1989, UTS amalgamated with several other institutions and parts of institutions, and the new UTS came into being.
