Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary
Volunteer information
At Lone Pine, we have a programme that allows volunteers to learn more about native Australian wildlife by working with them, and their keepers, in a captive environment.
Am I eligible?
To be eligible for the programme, you must be at least 18 years of age. No prior experience with . is necessary. Places are limited, so bookings are essential.
What days can I work?
You can choose whatever days are suitable for you to come in – including weekends – depending on how many bookings we already have.
What can I expect?
We have a large variety of species here, and they are divided into different sections (Birds, Mammals, Reptiles, Macropods, Hospital, Koalas) with a head keeper primarily responsible for all the . within that section. As a volunteer, you will be sent with a keeper each day to assist them with the daily care and maintenance of the . in their section. This includes:
• Preparing/collecting food for .
• Assisting with cleaning animal enclosures
• Assisting with maintenance of animal enclosures
• Taking part in behavioural enrichment programmes
• Anything else asked by the keeper – within reason of course!
Volunteers start at 8.30am each morning and finish at 3.30pm. There is a 20min morning tea and 1 hour lunch. During these breaks, you can feel free to explore the sanctuary a bit more or mingle with the staff.
How do I get there?
Lone Pine has a city council bus stop inside the sanctuary grounds – right near the Administration building. Bus lines 445 and 430 are the lines that come to Lone Pine.
Where should I go on my first day?
On your first day of volunteering, go directly to either the Administration building (Mon-Fri) or the entrance of the sanctuary (Sat-Sun). Let the staff there know that you are here to volunteer and they will give you directions to the staff room (this is where volunteers meet at the beginning of each day).
Where can I stay if I don’t live in Brisbane?
Lone Pine doesn’t have any accommodation attached, so you will have to arrange accommodation for yourself.
What should I bring?
You should wear something that is comfortable for you to work in (jeans, T-shirt, shorts, etc), but which you don’t mind getting dirty. No crop tops, singlets (sleeveless shirts) or skirts are allowed. Fully enclosed shoes are essential – sneakers (runners/joggers) or work boots are fine. Remember to bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and a raincoat for wet weather.
Each day you will be given cards that can be handed in at the café to receive free food and drink for morning tea and lunch. Alternately, if you wish to bring something of your own, you can use the staff room facilities (fridge, microwave oven, toaster, coffee machine).

Hello,
nächstes Jahr plane ich eine Weltreise und Australien bildet dabei einen grossen Abschnitt.
In der Zeit von ca. 3 Monaten würde ich gerne auch dort arbeiten.
Bzw. woofen (volunteers machen genau das, oder?)
Gefallen würde mir die Arbeit mit Tieren, wie zb: auf einer Ranch arbeiten, in einem Wildlifepark, Koalas grossziehen, Hundesitten,...
Genauso würde es mir gefallen, in einem Kindergarten zu arbeiten oder Hilfsorganisationen zu unterstützen....
Es darf ruhig etwas abenteuerlich sein.
Was für Möglichkeiten habe ich da, ohne Geld für eine Organisation auszugeben. Und wie sieht es mit dem Visum aus. Ich habe gehört dass ÖsterreicherInnen nur sehr schwer ein Arbeitsvisum bekommen.
Doch es gibt ja auch das Work&travel Visum. Was genau erlaubt dieses Visum und wie schwer bzw. einfach ist das zu kriegen?
Fragen über Fragen....
Ich wäre sehr dankbar, wenn Ihr mir weiterhelfen könntet.

| Leider gibt es für Österreicher kein Working Holiday Visum. Du kannst jedoch mit einem Studentenvisum arbeiten. Du bekommst ein solches Visum wenn du einen Kurs buchst, der für ein solches Visum zugelassen ist.

Hallo,
der Job in Lone Pine hört sich sehr interessant an. Mit Tieren zu arbeiten und damit das Projekt zu unterstützen und viel über die Tierwelt zu erfahren würde mir sehr gefallen.
Muss man für dieses Projekt bezahlen? Bekommt man eine Unterkunft? Wann müssste man sich anmelden?
Ich werde im März nach Australien fliegen und weiß aber noch nicht genau wann.
